RECs are certificate instruments representing the renewable attribute of 1 MWh of energy production from an energy generator. Some RECs are “bundled” and sold together with the energy from an offsite renewable energy system and others can be bought and sold without an accompanying power purchase. REC procurement is flexible and gives buyers the ability to periodically purchase variable quantities from online retailers.
